Located in St. Paul Minnesota, Avenues Recovery is an outpatient and co-occurring disorders clinic. We are here to support you wherever you are in your recovery journey.

Who we are

Our treatment philosophy is based on client centered and trauma-informed care. We meet each client where they are, offering support to achieve their treatment goals with respect to culture, language and orientation. We believe in doing more than treating a diagnosis - we treat people, each with unique needs, experiences, and belief systems.

Julie Hooker | Treatment Director, MS, LADC

Julie brings with her years of experience in the field of substance use and recovery. She received her LADC through Minneapolis Community and Technical College and went on to obtain a Bachelor's degree in Human Services at Metropolitan State University. She earned her Master's degree in Social and Community Services at Capella University. Julie is a native Minnesotan and understands the issues facing our homeless and substance using populations. As the owner and director of Avenues Recovery, Julie brings this wealth of knowledge and experience to implement a client-centered and trauma-informed approach, focusing on substance use and mental health issues. By utilizing best practices and a collaborative relationship with the clients, Julie hopes to promote wellness through a continuum of care model that supports the stages of change and creates a positive relationship with the client throughout their journey of recovery.

Sahra Mohamed | Administration/Intake Coordinator

Sahra is the first point of contact for clients entering our facility. Her warm and caring spirit is immediately apparent. She has been with Avenues Recovery for many years and is a vital component of the company. She is well liked by clients and takes care to make connections with every person she meets.

Howard Ellis | BS, LADC

Howard attended Century College and graduated from Metropolitan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Addiction Counseling. Howard’s goal is to help as many people as possible to become free from problematic substance use.

Laurie Tatreau | BS, LADC

Laurie graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Alcohol and Drug Counseling from Metropolitan State University. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Advocacy and Political Leadership. Laurie has primarily worked with populations that have chronic issues of incarceration, institutionalism, and homelessness and has worked tirelessly to provide a harm reduction, holistic program with the goal of improving health, well-being, and quality of life. She strives to treat people where they are and to do so with respect to each person’s culture, experiences, beliefs, and orientation. Laurie has 35 years of field experience in substance use and co-occurring disorders and 15 years of freedom from substance use.

Patty Barrios | ADC

Patty graduated from Century College with an Associate’s degree in Alcohol and Drug Counseling and is currently enrolled at Metropolitan State University to earn a bachelor of Human Services degree. Patty has volunteered with Peace Circle, Boys Totem Town and Restorative Justice.

Stephen Keyser | CPRS

Stephen received his certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist from Bold North Recovery and Consulting and certification from the Minnesota Certification Board. He enjoys his role as Peer Recovery Specialist and assists clients with community based needs and transportation. He appreciates the opportunity to help clients, meet them where they are and help them get where they need to go.

Robert Butler | Advocate and Peer Recovery Support

Rob has many years of experience in the field of substance use and maintains great passion for all people, especially those in the depths of addiction, incarceration, homelessness and mental health issues. His knowledge and compassion shows, as he brings warmth and humor to all clients he assists, connecting them to community based services and support groups.


Aaron Close | BA, LADC, LPCC Licensing Candidate

Aaron received his Associate of Arts degree from Inver Hills Community College and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Hawaii. He then went on to complete his Master of Arts from the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies, focusing on Integrated Recovery for Co-Occurring Disorders. Aaron takes a holistic approach to the clients’ well-being. He is currently a licensing candidate, soon to earn his LPCC.

Arin Hooker | Administration/Social Media/Marketing

Arin is currently pursuing an Associate’s degree in Health Information Technology with the goal of becoming certified in Medical Billing and Coding. Arin wants to engage meaningfully with the recovery community and assist clients in whatever way is needed. As someone who has struggled with mental health and substance use issues herself, Arin approaches client care in a very non-judgmental and compassionate manner. The client needs to feel heard, understood, respected and welcomed. She is excited to help promote and build the Avenues Recovery brand.

Jack McGee | LADC

Jack worked almost 17 years for the Department of Corrections as a Correctional Behavioral Therapist for chemical dependency and mental health. He has also worked for almost 6 years at Regions SafeHouse in Saint Paul as a Co-occurring Disorder Group Facilitator for dual diagnosed clients in a harm-reduction setting.
